New Delhi: A man has been arrested for allegedly carrying foreign currency worth nearly Rs two crore at Indira Gandhi International Airport here.

The accused was intercepted by the officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) when he was trying to board a flight to Dubai.

On personal and baggage search, currencies i.e. Euros 2,50,500 (Rs 1.9 crore) have been recovered from him, a senior DRI official said today.

The accused, who hails from Delhi, has made six foreign visits this year alone. He was arrested yesterday, the official said.

As per rules, there is no cap on carrying foreign currency by an Indian national provided he gives a valid proof of its legal source.

The arrest comes after another seizure of foreign currency worth Rs five crore on August 18. Four persons were arrested by the DRI in this case.

In most of these cases, the foreign currency is handed over to passenger going abroad by a domestic passenger, he said.

The DRI, an intelligence arm under the Finance Ministry, has seized more than Rs 16 crore worth foreign currencies since April this year.
