An incident of murder took place in North Delhi’s Burari area on Tuesday morning. Karuna, a 22-year-old schoolteacher was stabbed over 20 times by the assailant, Surender Singh on a busy road, who accosted the victim from behind.

The entire incident was recorded on a CCTV camera. The assailant is seen pushing her to the ground before stabbing and kicking her multiple times.

As the brutal attack unfolded on the side of the road, passersby paid no heed to it, ignoring Karuna’s cries for help.

Police said Singh was in love with Karuna for over a year and had proposed to her several times. Karuna, however, had turned him down. It was then that Singh started stalking her and even threatened to kill her.

A few months ago, Karuna reportedly approached the local police after Singh started harassing her by repeatedly calling her on the phone. She also informed her parents and brother about the harassment.

Police said both Karuna and Singh were called to the police station, and the duo compromised as Karuna’s family members did not want to file a police case. Singh reportedly promised to mend his ways.

On Tuesday, however, he was after Karuna and stopped her on her way to school. He then stabbed her more than 20 times before fleeing.

“The locals gathered at the spot and managed to catch Singh, who was trying to flee. They thrashed him and called the police. He was then handed over to us,” an investigator said. “He has been arrested and a case of murder has been registered against him.”
