he man behind the Swachh Bharat Mission logo which features on the new currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 is jubilant, as millions will soon be handling the currencies carrying his design.

“It is a proud moment for me, as the logo I designed is going to appear on the new currency notes. I am going to keep one note in my personal collection forever, as it is a rare moment to have your logo on currency notes,” Kolhapur resident Anant Khasbardar told PTI.

The 47-year-old designer was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014 on the occasion of the launching of the Mission and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

The notes will have Swachh Bharat logo printed on it.

RBI sources said the notes are an in-house design.

Ideas were invited from the people for designing the logo and suggesting appropriate slogans. The logo with spectacles of Mahatma Gandhi with Swachh Bharat written on the two glasses with the bridge of the spectacles in National Tricolour signifies the entire nation uniting to achieve the vision of Mahatma for a Clean India, Khasbardar said.

“The logo was supposed to connect with Mahatma Gandhi and his insistence on cleanliness. That is why I chose to use his glasses that would trigger Gandhi’s image to the viewer,” he said.
