In a unanimous resolution adopted by AIADMK party members at the party’s general council meeting Thursday, former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s close aide V K Sasikala was handed over control of the party. Chief Minister O Pannerselvam left for Poes Garden to meet Sasikala and hand over copies of the resolutions. “Until Ms. Sasikala is elected under the party’s by-law no.20, section.2, she has been unanimously appointed as General Secretary . Ms. Sasikala will have all powers vested with the General Secretary,” the resolution said.
The meeting was called to fill the party’s general secretary position, which fell vacant after Jayalalithaa’s demise. Sasikala is likely to assume the role or create a new position for herself within the party by leaving the general secretary post vacant. Jayalalithaa had held the party post for over three decades.
