While India celebrates its Republic day on 26th Jan 2017, championing the cause of LGBTQ rights, an individual has decided to finally tie the knot with his transgender partner.

They have opted for a traditional approach as such couples cannot legally marry or obtain a civil partnership in this country. Their family and even the transgender community had opposed the marriage at first but finally succumbed to the bride and groom’s wishes.

The couple celebrated mehendi ( a ritual where as per the traditions, the bride or in some cases even the groom applies henna on their hands as well as feet) and will subsequently celebrate mangni (which is the blessing and and engagement ceremony) on 26th January. The marriage nuptials (marriage registration as per Hindu tradition) will be held for the couple.
