Congress files complaint for EC probe into Irom Sharmila’s bribe allegations

The Congress on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India following the reports of Irom Sharmila claiming that she was approached for a BJP ticket from the state in exchange of Rs 36 crore by party convenor Sur Vinod.

In a letter written to Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, Election Commissioner A.K. Joti, Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat by KC Mittal, the head of the legal cell at the Congress, the party demanded that an independent investigation must be conducted by a high level team “to collect entire material and evidence and prosecute persons found responsible for such offer of bribe for electoral purposes.”
