Goa government has received a Rs 22-crore proposal from an IT firm to install wifi at schools and colleges across the state, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the state Legislative Assembly today.
“There is no specific time frame for setting up of wifi in educational institutes. However, the department has received a proposal from M/s. ITG for an estimated amount of Rs 22,53,00,114 for implementing (providing) wi-fi for schools and colleges for a period of five years,” Parsekar said in a written reply to a question by BJP MLA Subhash Faldesai.
He said the IT firm has conducted initial feasibility study to explore the possibility of providing the wi-fi internet connectivity in educational institutes across Goa in collaboration with National Informatics Centre and the education department.
“Based on the feasibility study, the department also planned to implement wifi on pilot basis through National Informatics Centre, Goa at 11 educational institutes,” Parsekar added.
