The death of Sepoy Babloo Singh, a resident of Mathura, in an encounter with terrorists near the Line of Control in Nowgam Sector, near Srinagar, on July 30 has devastated his family but it hasn’t shattered their will to fight for the country. As his last remains arrived at Mathura on Sunday, his two younger brothers, Harimom and Satti, swore to join the Army to fulfil the task left unaccomplished by their “bhai”, reported TNN.
Interacting with the media at the helipad where Babloo’s body arrived from Srinagar, Harimom said, “His death has broken us, but hasn’t shaken our resolve to fight for the country.” The brave duo said they would join the Army and fulfil the uncompleted task of their brother.
According to TNN, Babloo, who joined of Jat regiment in 2005, was killed while stopping an infiltration attempt by some terrorists in Nowgam sector. Besides Babloo, another jawan, Vishal Chaudhry, also of UP (Bulandshahar), and two militants were killed in the gunbattle.
Hariom said they received the news of Babloo’s “martyrdom” on Saturday afternoon. “Army personnel came to our home at village Jhandipur near Farah and informed us about the incident,” he said, adding that the family had last met Babloo a month ago when he came for a week’s leave.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Rawita, and two minor children, Drone (6) and Garima (3). His body is expected to be brought to his native village for last rites on Monday morning.
According to officials, in the early hours of Saturday, while being part of an ambush party on the Line of Control (LOC), Sepoy Babloo Singh noticed suspicious move of militants. On being challenged, the militants opened fire on the ambush party. Notwithstanding the risks involved, Sepoy Singh retaliated with precision fire killing two militants on the spot. However, in the ensuing fire fight, Singh was grievously injured. He was evacuated to the nearest medical post, but succumbed to the bullet wounds.
Meanwhile, UP Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced a Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia payment for the deceased jawan’s family.
