More than 3,500 ducks have died after drinking the water in the Palar riverbed at Periya Komeswaram village near Ambur, reported The Times of India. Samples collected from water as well as the vital organs of the dead birds will undergo forensic tests to know why the ducks have died in large numbers.
The locals are suspicious about the effluent discharge from the nearby tanneries that might have caused the deaths, however, the pollution control boards have cooled down the possibility of such diffusion of pollutants given the wide difference between the pollutants in the tanneries and in the river. They have cited it to be a case of poisoning, however, they were not able to ascertain the same.
Water pollution is a menace in India, it has destroyed ecosystems, lives and has affected water tables and drinking water resources. Many chemical plants on the river banks have caused havoc to the local ecosystems. The Logical Indian appeals to the authorities to investigate the deaths of the ducks and find the solution to the same.
