On the occasion of 70th Independence Day of India six Indian coast guard personnel have been awarded with the President Tatrakshak and Tatrakshak Medal for their for their gallantry, distinguished and meritorious services, an official statement said.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Gurupdesh Singh has been awarded the President’s Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service while Commandant Radhakrishna Rajesh Nambiraj and Kuldeep Pradhan Yantrik were conferred the President’s Tatrakshak Medal for Gallantry. DIG Mohammand Abu Thalha, DIG Mohammad Atique Warsi and DIG Sanjeev Dewan have been honoured with President’s Tatrakshak Medal for Meritorious Services. The awards are being given to personnel of Indian Coast Guard since 1990 on the occasions of Republic Day and Independence Day.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the nation from the Red Fort. Home Minister Rajnath Singh reportedly checked upon the expansive security arrangements in adjoining areas of the Red Fort before the PM Modi arrived and unfurled the Indian flag. The Prime Minister is set to travel to Gujarat after leaving the Red Fort.

Amongst other issues, Prime Minister Modi spoke about giving his backing to a new inflation target in his speech on Monday, saying his government had brought down consumer price growth from double digits under the last government.

Delivering his third Independence Day address, Modi backed the 4 percent inflation target, within a range of 2 percentage points either way, that had been agreed with outgoing Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan. The government formally “notified” the medium-term inflation target just before Rajan held his final policy meeting on August 9. Figures last Friday showed inflation nudging over 6 percent, outside the target range.
