Dipa Karmakar, India’s sole Olympic finals gymnast, was placed fourth in the Rio Olympics Women’s Vaults concluded a few minutes ago.
Karmakar executed two amazing vaults, and scored 14.886 and 15.226, which aggregated at 15.006. Her hopes for a bronze still held tight until the very last contestant, Simone Biles, of USA, executed two stunning and elegant vaults of scores 15.900 and 16.033 to steal away the gold.
Karmakar had been in the third position before Biles’s last minute stunt, right behind Russian Maria Paseka and Swiss gymnast Giulia Steingruber. She moved out of the third place and missed her shot at a bronze medal after Simone grabbed the gold and Maria and Giulia were pushed to the second and third position respectively.
