Pakistani director Nadeem Baig has revealed that Rishi Kapoor had turned down his offer for a lead role in the sequel of the hit comedy Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2.

According to a report in Dawn, Rishi Kapoor reportedly said, “Rather than casting Indian actors in Pakistani movies, it would be a good idea to find a strong story, which makes an impact on Indian cinema.”

Baig said, “Yes we approached him. He liked his role but he said he’ll agree to it if we can release the film in India as well.”

There were several speculations in the media over the reason for Kapoor’s refusal to do a Pakistani film. Kapoor has lately courted several controversies because of his political tweets.

First his ‘baap ka maal hai’ comments meant for Congress’ Gandhi family made him a social media villain in May this year. Those comments prompted many to conclude that Kapoor had well and truly revealed his political ideology.

Then he was accused of posting a misogynistic tweet about the Democratic Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, who will be pitted against Republican’s Donald Trump in November this year. Trump, as we all know, has made several xenophobic and racist comments promising to bar Muslims from entering the US should he become the President.

Kapoor had acted in Zeba Bakhtiar starred Heena,  whose story revolved around India-Pakistan tension and how it impacted a blossoming love between a boy (Kapoor) from India with a girl from (Bakhtiar) from Pakistan.
