Six sadhus hailing from Uttar Pradesh have been booked for allegedly driving a 20-year-old follower to commit suicide in 2015, police said today.

Offences were registered against them yesterday at Adgaon Police station under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 )acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.

The police have identified the six accused as Ramkamaldas, Vishnudas, Baliramdas, Sumeri Yadav, Pannasingh and Safaidas Guru Brahmanand Tiwari.

They are said to have instigated Bajrangidas Kesari to commit suicide on September 8, 2015 during the Kumbh mela at Sadhugram in Nashik’s tapovan area, police officer Sachin Sadaphule said.

The victim’s father, Durgaprasad, after a gap of 10 months lodged a police complaint yesterday alleging his son had gone to Nashik with these sadhus and stayed in Tapovan, where he was mentally and physically harassed.

The youth started complaining of stomach pain on the night of September 8 following which he was rushed to state-run Indira Gandhi hospital, where he died the next day, police said.

The autopsy report revealed he had consumed poison, they said.
