Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju’s recent comment provoked a controversy. The remark was a disparaging one about Bihar. Some political leaders on Tuesday termed it a remark of sedition and called for his arrest.

Katju made a sarcastic remark on social media on Sunday, the remark suggested that Pakistan could indeed get Kashmir if it agrees to take Bihar also as part of a “package deal”.

Addressing Pakistanis, the septuagenarian wrote on Facebook, “You have to take the whole package, or none at all. Either you take both Kashmir and Bihar, or nothing.”

Katju’s comment drew attacks, he accepted that he was only joking. “I respect Biharis. Bihar has made a big contribution…it has seen great men like Gautam Buddha, Chandragupta Maurya and Ashok,” he said.
