In an unfortunate and inhuman event a 90-year-old cancer patient was sexually assaulted by a person, who forcefully entered her house in Kadakkal near Kollam in south Kerala. The incident happened on September 14 but came into light only on Wednesday.
The woman, who is a widow does not have any children and has been living alone for 20 years since the death of her husband.
The victim alleged that her relatives asked her to keep mum about the whole incident and she got the similar reaction from the panchayat member of that area, as he completely ignored her complaint. Later one social worker of that locality informed the police.
The state human rights commission has registered a case suo motu and asked the police to submit a report in a week. The police registered a case under IPC sections 377 and 354. According to them, the accused broke into the house through the rear door at night and assaulted the woman at knife point. She also suffered injuries in the scuffle. The victim has named a man from the area, who is currently absconding.
