The AAP crisis in Punjab deepened after 86 office-bearers of Amritsar zone resigned from the party’s primary membership on Monday, reported Times of India.
The report said that the AAP office-bearers resigned citing “dictatorial behaviour” particularly by so-called ‘outsiders.’ Rebels said that while 80% members of AAP’s Amritsar zone had resigned, members of seven more zones of Punjab were expected to follow suit.
There are indications that they will now join the new front, Awaaz-e-Punjab, recently floatedby former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu.
“It was a difficult decision, but we decided to resign en masse from the primary membership of AAP,” the party’s Amritsar zone incharge Gurinder Singh Bajwa told the paper.
Bajwa also said that he will join Sucha Singh Chotepur’s yatra, which is scheduled to commence today. Chotepur was recently sacked by the party in an alleged corruption case.
Sidhu was widely expected to join the party after he resigned as the BJP Rajya Sabha MP. But the talks between him and Kejriwal broke down reportedly after he demanded the AAP to project him as the chief ministerial candidate.
