The home ministry, said sources, has agreed to deploy a total 85,000 Central para-military personnel for the ensuing assembly polls, which will largely be concentrated in UP. Sources said around 100 companies (10,000 troops) are under deployment order in Punjab and 50 (5,000 personnel) in UP. Rest will be sent as per demand.
CRPF sources indicated that the deployment of para-military companies may start up to a month ahead of polling.
In Manipur, around 175 companies (17,500 troops) are already deployed. These may suffice for poll security as well.
