Bandh supporters torch the dumper in Jharkhand, 6 arrested

Jamshedpur: A dumper was set on fire as Jharkhand Bandh called by the opposition parties to protest against the amendment made in the decades-old Chhotanagpur and Santal Paragana Tenancy Act (CNT and SPT) began amidst tight security arrangements today.

The bandh supporters torched the dumper at Dhamdum village, on the outskirts of the steel city here, in East Singhbhum district in the early hours today, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Musaboni), Ajit Kumar Vimal said.

Six bandh supporters, allegedly involved in the incident, were arrested while two vehicles belonging to them were also seized, he said.

According to South Eastern Railway sources, train services remained unaffected so far in Chakradharpur division.

A report received from Giridih district stated that the impact of the bandh was visible in the district as the activists of main opposition party in the state assembly JMM and CPI (ML) workers took to the streets and put up road blockade on National Highway GT road since morning.

The administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC in Bagodar-Saria sub-division of the district in view of the bandh, official sources said.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pawan Kumar Mandal said the order will be in force from 6 am to midnight today.
