CBI probe in 33 out of total 53 coal scam cases pending: Govt

CBI has registered a total of 53 cases related to the coal scam in which blocks were allegedly distributed in violation of policies with the probe in 33 cases still pending, Lok Sabha was informed today.

The agency had registered three preliminary inquiries in the matter covering allocations during 2006-09, during 1993-2005 and through Government dispensation route, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said.

In response to a question, Singh said all the preliminary inquiries have been concluded.

He said the agency has registered 33 cases against 34 companies arising from PE looking into allegations of irregularities in the allocations of coal blocks during 2006-09 to 168 companies.

“Field investigation in all these cases has been concluded. Final reports in 16 cases have been filed. 17 cases are pending at different levels of investigation,” he said giving details of the first PE.

Giving details of second PE covering 43 coal block allocations during 1993-2005, the Minister said CBI has registered 14 cases in which final reports (charge sheets or closure reports) have been filed in three cases while remaining cases are pending at different levels.
