Every year 9 to 10 officers in the Police department commit suicide due to various reasons.

Around 28 per cent of officers are involved in crime cases and were facing disciplinary action for major penalties and around 35 per cent were addicted to smoking and consumption of intoxicating drinks, Behara said.

The counselling centre– ‘HATS’ (Help and Assistance to Tackle Stress) will be set at Special Armed Police, here.

A four member committee with ADGP Intelligence R Sreelekha as Chairman has been constituted to help establish the centre.

The other members are B Sandhya, ADGP (South Zone), Nithin Agarwal, ADGP Armed Police Battalion and P S Abdul Rassak, Commandant Special Armed Police.
