Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today said democracy was the best system of governance and the country should be supreme for all political parties.
“For the success of this system, political parties should be aware of the direction they are heading towards,” he said at a conference of current and former MLAs and MPs, organised as part of Haryana’s ‘Swarna Jayanti’ (golden jubilee) celebrations here.
“The country should be supreme in the eyes of all the political parties and only then, it could become an empowered nation,” Solanki said.
“I have seen the programmes for Haryana’s year-long statehood celebrations. People coming to Haryana for the next one year will get a glimpse of its glorious cultural heritage,” he added.
Solanki said the slogan ‘Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek’, on the lines of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ of the Centre, would open a “new chapter of love, harmony and brotherhood” in the state.
The Governor urged the political parties to discharge their responsibilities and ensure the success of the ‘Swarna Jayanti’ programmes.
“The celebrations offer an occasion for introspection whether we have achieved what the great personalities, who were pivotal in the creation of the state, had envisaged,” he said.
It was a matter of pride that by following the path shown by them, Haryana was among the developed states, but people’s participation was a must to take it further, Solanki said.
Union Steel Minister Birender Singh said Haryana had made “remarkable progress” in the last 50 years with the contribution of its 2.5 crore people.
“We cannot progress if we make our political thinking narrow. Collective efforts are required to make our state achieve great heights,” he said.
Singh suggested that the number of meetings of the state Assembly should be increased and in the ‘Swarna Jayanti’ year, apart from an international convention centre, an art centre, a museum and a ‘Sainik Dwar’ should also be established.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar said Haryana was formed on November 1, 1966, and in the last 50 years, it had emerged as a “leading state” and had made fast progress.
Haryana Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal said it was a matter of pleasure to organise the conference.
“This is the 13th Assembly of Haryana since its formation.
The Assembly has conducted 126 sessions and 869 sittings in the last 50 years. As many as 1,296 bills have been passed and out of 311 adjournment motions, 25 were accepted,” he informed.
Besides, out of 2,143 calling attention motion, 659 were approved, he added.
