Spanning in an area of 884 sq kilometers, DNP houses a number of wild animals, birds, reptiles including its flagship species like royal Bengal tigers, swampdeer, and Bengal florican bird. Nearly 51 tigers in Kishanpur and 30 in Dudhwa were detected during the last camera trap in 2015.

The lone Rhino rehabilitation area of the state comprising nearly three dozen uni-horned rhinos exists here, amusing the tourists and wildlife lovers.

Rich flora and fauna, medicinal plants and Tharu population here have been a matter of research and study for the experts.
