Police claimed to have busted an inter-state fake currency racket in Hyderabad on Friday after arresting three persons, including a woman, and counterfeit currency notes of face value Rs 11.95 lakh were seized from them.

Acting on a tip-off, Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, with the help of Charminar Police, apprehended Mohd Ghouse, a fruit vendor from Chandrayangutta, besides Shareeful Shaikh and Jahannara Bibi, both from West Bengal’s Malda district, when they were allegedly exchanging the fake notes, police said.

Mohd Ghouse was released from jail about one-and-half months back and revived his old contacts in Malda, with whom he was previously involved in supplying counterfeit currency notes, they said.

“About 10 days back he contacted one of his old supplier Babloo Shaik of Malda. On September 7 Babloo sent fake currency notes of face value Rs 12 lakh through his mother Jahannara Bibi and brother-in-law Shareeful Shaik,” Additional DCP N Koti Reddy said.

They were caught red-handed with Rs 11,95,000.

Babloo Shaik, the prime accused in the case, is yet to be arrested. Further investigation is on, the officer said.
