Mumbai: Western Railway (WR) said five railway stations under its jurisdiction, all of which are located in Gujarat, have figured in the list of cleanest railway stations in the country.
This ranking was given in the passenger feedback survey on cleanliness carried out by the Railway Ministry, which was released by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu yesterday.
“Gandhidham station secured the second rank in the recent national survey of major railway stations for cleanliness ranking commissioned by Ministry of Railways.
Jamnagar, Surat, Rajkot and Ankleshwar are the other stations which found place in the list,” the WR statement said.
“Similarly, in the rankings for cleanliness at Divisional Headquarters, Rajkot Division office secured the second place with cleanliness level 1 and Bhavnagar came in on 10th place with cleanliness level 2. Overall, Western Railway has been adjudged as the best zone, with the highest proportion of stations (68 per cent) in cleanliness level 1 i.e. 19 out of total 28 stations,” it added.
Among the 10 cleanest stations in the order of ranking are Beas, Gandhidham, Vasco Da Gama, Jamnagar, Kumbakonam, Surat, Nasik Road, Rajkot, Salem and Ankleshwar. Five stations in Gujarat — Gandhidham, Jamnagar, Surat, Rajkot and Ankleshwar — are among the top 10.
The survey of major railway stations for cleanliness ranking was initiated by the Environment and Housekeeping Management Directorate of Ministry of Railways.
