With senior Union ministers and BJP leaders in attendance, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday laid the foundation stone of Sangh’s new building in Delhi. BJP chief Amit Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, ministers Piyush Goyal, Vijay Goel, and leaders like Shahnawaz Hussain were among those who attended the event. Veteran BJP leader L K Advani sat along with Bhagwat as the inaugural prayers were recited, before the RSS chief laid the first brick amid chants of Vedic shlokas. However, only Bhagwat delivered a speech at the event.

The event yet again confirmed the position that the Sangh commands in the government. On Saturday, wives of top BJP ministers had attended an event marking the 80th anniversary of RSS’s women wing Rashtra Sevika Samiti.

The massive seven-storied complex, spread over 3.5 lakh square feet, will come up at Keshav Kunj in Jhandewalan, replacing a portion of the Sangh’s old building. The Rs 70-crore complex is likely to be completed within three years.

“The new building is a matter of joy for us,” Bhagwat said, adding that the building would become the “Sangh Karyalaya only when we convert it into a centre of sanctity, inspiration, purity for Swayamsevaks and the society”. “In that sense, the new building brings upon us new responsibilities,” Bhagwat added.
