Haryana is moving towards becoming “risk-free” state for farmers as insurance schemes at a minimum premium covering crops, animals and people were being implemented, the agriculture minister claimed on Thursday.
Om Prakash Dhankhar claimed Haryana was among the leading states to implement ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna’.
In the first year of its implementation an estimated 20 per cent farmers have adopted the scheme, he said adding that it was “a good beginning.”
Insurance scheme for animals has also been started and insurance of people was being done under ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojna’, he told reporters at the PWD Rest House here.
He, however, clarified that the crop insurance scheme was not new but some concepts have been added to the scheme.
The state government has succeeded in getting crop insurance done at a minimum premium, he said.
Criticising Opposition parties for misleading the people on crop insurance scheme, Dhankhar said they were “opposing it only for opposition without going into it’s merits.”
He claimed that the farmers now could not be misled as they were now on social media.
“They cannot be bluffed,” the minister said.
