Baharampur, WB: In an apparent dig at WBPCC president Adhir Chowdhury in his backyard, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said only politics was done instead of ushering in development in Murshidabad.

“Only abusing me will not serve any purpose. Let one do one per cent work what I have done in five years. For a long time no work was done in Murshidabad district. There was more politics than work,” Banerjee told a gathering here.

Trinamool Congress took control of Murshidabad Zilla Parishad and Baharampur Municipality recently with many Congress and Left Front members switching over to the TMC.

The Trinamool Congress supremo said there were problems, but “We will find solution. Help us in reviving the glory of Murshidabad district with development.”

On the Turning erosion in River Ganga in the district, Banerjee said erosion was a big problem.

“I have asked the Chief Secretary to talk to the Centre on this issue,” she said.

Referring to cow smuggling to Bangladesh, Banerjee said “Cow smugglers should be identified. Cow smuggling should be stopped.”

“Women trafficking should also be stopped. Girls are our assets,” she said, adding “Don’t belittle them. Let the girls stand on her own feet.”

Stating that her government would usher in development in the district, the Chief Minister said “Murshidabad is famous for textiles. We will develop this sector. We are committed to help various Self Help Groups and artisans”.

She said 1.10 crore minority students have received scholarships in Murshidabad.

“Of the 183 Karmatirthas, 25 are being set up in this district. We distributed benefits to 80,000 people from this stage. Three multi-super hospitals have been set up in the district,” she added.
