Senior correspondent Mohd. Hizbullah of the non-profit site of investigative journalism Cobrapost.com has been illegally detained by UP police under the influence of SP MLA Ghulam Mohd since yesterday. He is in illegal custody at Dilli Gate police station, Meerut for the last 22 hours and the police is yet to provide a proper reason for the detention.
Not only has the reporter been taken into custody, MLA Ghulam Mohd has also taken away the spy camera which was being used in this particular investigation. Mohd. Hizbullah, while working on this story had managed to unearth information that had become a cause of alarm for the SP MLA.
Hizbullah had talked to Ghulam Mohd posing as a marketing executive over the phone after which the MLA agreed to meet and called the reporter to his home. Around 2pm at 11th August, Hizbullah reached the house of Ghulam Mohd for the said meet and after an hour, Hizbullah informed us that police had taken him into custody.
The police have not yet released him even after the matter was brought to the knowledge of senior police officials. According to reliable sources, the illegal detention has been done under the influence of SP MLA Ghulam Mohd. Police have apparently even kept two pages of FIR blank for any backdate entry and further false indictment.
