Bhubaneswar: Incessant rains triggered by a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal disrupted normal life in several parts of Odisha today, leaving low-lying areas in several cities inundated.

As heavy downpour pounded many parts of the state during the last two days, rain water inundated roads, streets and low-lying areas in places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur and Koraput, hitting normal life.

A flood-like situation was witnessed in Sambalpur city in the western part of the state which recorded highest rainfall of 240 mm. Rain water gushed into houses in low-lying areas, damaging household articles.

Vehicular movement virtually came to a halt due to submerged roads, while students and office-goers has a tough time in commuting.

In the state capital of Bhubaneswar, many areas like Acharya Vihar, Laxmisagar, Nayapalli, Sabar Sahi, Jharpada, Baramunda and Tankapani Road were badly affected.

While Bhubaneswar received 44.2 mm rainfall, Angul received 111.6 mm rainfall, Cutack 53.8 mm and Puri 30.8 mm, the MeT office said.
