What happened between India and Pakistan has now become common knowledge, debated with gusto with all the media channels and even among the citizens of both the countries. India claimed that it had made a surgical strike on the terrorist base camps of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The Indian media hailed it as a befitting reply to the ghastly Uri attack. In Uri attack 18 jawans of Indian army lost their lives and it appeared that India has finally avenged its martyrs.

Although it has been hailed as a major victory, some showed outrage at the fact that it was not carried out sooner, keeping in mind the strained relationship and the bitter discourse that we have had with them over the issue of terrorism. So are we late or was this an apt time to carry this surgical attack?

A surgical operation can only be carried out after there has been proper ground work and detailed research work. It is focused on a defined area, steering clear from harming civilians, and thus needs meticulous precision by the army. India carried out the surgical operation after being para-dropped in to the POC and managed to eliminate 38 terrorists.

Furthermore in the briefing by DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, he clearly stated that “During these terrorist attacks and infiltration attempts, we have recovered various stores including GPS and items that clearly indicate their origins in Pakistan. Furthermore, captured terrorists hailing from Pakistan or Pakistan Occupied Kashmir have confessed to their training and arming in Pakistan or territory under its control. The matter had been taken up at highest diplomatic levels and through military channels. India has also offered consular access to these apprehended terrorists for Pakistan to verify their confessions. Furthermore, we had proposed that fingerprints and DNA samples of terrorists killed in Punch and Uri could be made available to Pakistan for investigation.”

After 18 Sep attack India remained on a high defense alert and was pressed by the public and the elite alike to take stringent measures and to retaliate.

In India all the parties supported the measures taken by the present government. Soniya Gandhi , kejriwal were effusive on the success of the attack.

However, things took a very different turn in Pakistan and its media.

Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan’s PTI denied the early news of the attack and where in the defense while accepting the death of two jawans on a later press release.

If no dialog takes place further, and no war or diplomatic development is shown, we will have to take lessons from the aftermath of this incident. Ponder over our position socially, economically, and infrastructural to exercise the stern and organized diplomatic relations.

If war takes place, we have to consider that both are nuclear powers, and both will be on the aggression. A war will probably result in the end of diplomatic relations between two countries.

India is still considering the review option of Indus Water Treaty, now it is a matter of who blinks first.  We don’t know to what extent such diplomatic talks will hold in the aftermath of external aggression. If war does not take place immediately the Indus water treaty and MFN will be the main issues on which these two nations would need to come in terms with.
