“We had inputs on Muzzafar Ahmed. He tried to break cordon, as we cornered and killed him. There was no collateral damage,” Anoop Nair, a soldier of 2IC, 53 Rashtriya Rifles said. Describing the operation as a “big achievement”, the soldiers said that the army has broken the backbone of Al Badr group who were trying to establish their base in the country. “The killed millitant was ousted from Al-Qaeda before he joined Al-Badr. He claimed to be the top leader of the faction and was also a close aide of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Qayum Nazar,” he added.
As per the officials, the slain commander was one of the longest surviving militants and the most wanted guerrilla in Jammu and Kashmir.
