State government of Kerala has directed local bodies to kill dogs that are dangerous. Minister for Local Administration, KT Jaleel said a direction regarding this same will be sent to all local self government institutions on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a press meet organised by Thiruvananthapuram Press Club. “Officials of local bodies need not hesitate in implementing the order. The priority of the government is in ensuring people’s safety. Besides the law that exist has provisions for the eradication of dogs deemed dangerous.” said the minister.

His reaction came three days after an elderly woman was fatally mauled by a pack of 50 dogs in the suburbs of Thiruvananthapuram. According to Jaleel many officials hesitated after being dragged to court to defend their action.

It takes three years of continuous process to control the stray dog population.
