NEW DELHI: The Left Unity has claimed 14 of the 15 councillor seats at JNU’s School of Languages, School of International Studies and School of Social Sciences combined. The remaining one has gone to Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF).

The Left Unity is an alliance of All India Students’ Association and the Students’ Federation of India. Essentially, all seats have gone to Left groups. Counting of votes for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union elections is, by all accounts, going extraordinarily fast. The election committee may declare the result on Saturday evening or Sunday morning despite the voter turn out increasing this year. At total of 5,181 votes were polled this election

Right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, which had won a councillor seat in SIS for the first time last year, has had a remarkably short run in the school and failed to repeat that performance. SL is another non-science school where ABVPstood a chance but as one AISA-member quipped, “ABVP chapter is closed in SL.”

In SSS, the winners are Aishwarya Bhattacharyya, Chetna Trivedi, Jai Prakash Prasad, Sumanta Roy and Upasana Hazarika — all from the AISA-SFI alliance. At SIS, the winners are Duggirala Srikrishna (SFI), Faizal Ahmad Qureshi (SFI), Salonee Sheetal (AISA), Shashi Kant Tripathi (AISA) and Pushpika Sapna Bara (DSF). In SL, the winners are Aditi Chatterjee, Kaushik Raj, Md. Fahad, Mohd. Qasim and Vikas Kumar.
