SHADNAGAR, TELANGANA: A gangster was shot dead in Telangana on the outskirts of Hyderabad in an operation carried out by the police.
The shoot-out took place in a residential neighbourhood called Millenium Towers, which was blocked off by policemen.
The encounter took place in the town of Shadnagar in the district of Mahbubnagar, just 60 km from the state capital of Hyderabad.
Initial reports had suggested that terrorists were involved but it has emerged that the man who was shot dead was an extortionist and police informer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state yesterday.
