Agartala: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s visit here on August 9 will pave way for the defeat of ruling CPI(M) in Tripura, a senior TMC leader said today.

“I am seeing the enthusiasm among the youths and people of all sections of the society to welcome Mamata Banerjee. The writing is on the wall that with the visit, the days of the ruling CPI(M) are now numbered,” Mukul Roy told a gathering here.

Roy was on a two-day visit here to oversee the preparations for Banerjee’s visit to the Left-ruled state.

Alleging that law and order has collapsed in the state and people have no safety and security, Roy said TMC would organise a movement against the ruling CPI(M) to oust them from power and free the people of Tripura from their tyranny.

“Development has come to a halt in Tripura. The youths are unemployed and farmers are getting poorer. There is no industry and lack of political will of the government has doomed the future of students. I do not see any future in Tripura. So, it is very natural that the people are waiting for a change, which is going to start August 9,” Roy said.

Incidentally, a day before Banerjee’s visit to Tripura, West Bengal CPI(M) state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra would visit the state to deliver a lecture on the ‘post poll violence in West Bengal let loose by TMC workers and leaders’.

Reacting to Mishra’s visit, Roy said “Surjya babu is a failed minister, who performed miserably as state secretary of CPI(M) and in the recently concluded assembly elections.”

He is coming here to see when the next alliance with Congress will take place here like that in West Bengal, Roy said.

“Congress is pretending like they are not with CPI(M), but their central leaders are all with CPI(M). Surjya babu is coming here for constructing a bridge between CPI(M) and Congress.”
