Shimla: Moderate to heavy rains occurred in some parts of Himachal Pradesh as monsoons remained normal in the state and minimum temperatures dropped marginally in mid and higher hills.
Eight persons who had gone to a small island in Yamuna river near Paonta Sahib for collecting fuelwood were marooned as water lever of the river rose suddenly following rains in the catchment areas.
The trapped people cried for help and the local administration rushed the rescue teams and divers and they were rescued after two hours.
Station House Officer(SHO) Paonta sahib Ashok Chauhan told PTI that the eight persons had gone to collect fuelwood on the small island this morning. They were marooned in a “tapu” as water level in the river rose suddenly while they were busy collecting the firewood.
They raised an alarm when they noticed that the island was about to submerge in water and some passersby noticed immediately informed police.
Local divers were pressed into service and they rescued all the eight persons after putting in efforts for over two hours.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains occurred at some places and Dalhousie was wettest with 82 mm rains, followed by Naina Devi 56 mm, Saloni 51 mm, Kheri 46 mm , Jubbarhatti 31 mm, Rampur 29 mm, Berthin 26 mm, Manali 24 mm, Guler 23 mm, Nagrota Surian 20 mm, Dehra Gopipur 18 mm, Ghamroor 13 mm, Mandi and Nurpur 12 mm and Jogindernagar and Shimla 10 mm.
The minimum temperatures dropped by two to three degrees and Keylong and Manali recoded a low of 10.9 degree and 12 degrees, followed by Kalpa 14.2 degree, Shimla 15.4 degree, Dharamsala 16.2 degree, Palampur 16.5 degree, Nahan 19.4 degree, Bhuntar 19.8 degree, Sundernagar 21.2 degree and Una 24 degree C.
There was no significant change in day temperatures and Una, which was hottest in the region, recorded maximum temperature at 34 degree, while Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a low of 33.7 degree and 31.7 degree, followed by Dharamshala 28.8 degree, Manali 26.2 degree, Nahan 26.1 degree, Solan 25.4 degree, Kalpa 23.8 degree, Shimla 20.6 degree.
The local MeT has predicted rains and thundershowers at many places in lower, mid and higher hills during next six days from tomorrow.
