MEHSANA: After threatening for the past two weeks to expose Narendra Modi’s “personal corruption” on the floor of Parliament, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi chose a public rally in the PM’s home district of Mehsana in Gujarat to allege that he was paid Rs 40 crore by the Sahara group between December 2013 and February 2014 when he was chief minister of the state.
Claiming that the income-tax department officials had recovered documents during a raid on Sahara’s premises in November 2014, Gandhi said, “These are on record. I want to share with you the contents of the documents. There were several entries, which I am reading out before you.” He then reeled off nine entries: “Rs 2.5 crore given on October 30, 2013; Rs 5 crore on November 12, ’13; Rs 2.5 crore on November 27, ’13; Rs 5 crore on November 29, ’13, Rs 5 crore on December 6, ’13; Rs 5 crore on December 19, ’13; Rs 5 crore on January 13, 2014; Rs 5 crore on January 28, ’14; Rs 5 crore on February 22, ’14.”
