New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today sought US Congress help in battling the attempts to restrict foreign worker visas that have gained steam under the Donald Trump administration and threaten Indian companies and workers the most.

At a meeting with a visiting team of US Congressmen and Congresswomen, Modi emphasised the role that skilled Indian workers, especially in the information technology industry, were playing in creating jobs and profits for American firms.

The delegation, the largest bipartisan grouping of leaders from the US Congress to visit India, has arrived at a time the Modi government is watching with caution, and a tinge of anxiety, the confusion surrounding some of Trump’s pronouncements.

Trump has promised to clamp down on foreign worker visas as part of his promise to bring back jobs to Americans.
