New video of Rohith Vemula surfaces online, he calls himself “Dalit from Guntur”

“My name is Rohith Vemula. I came from Guntur. I am a Dalit,” says Rohith Vemula in a video that has recently surfaced after nine months after his death amid all the debate regarding his caste, reported The Hindu.

Vemula described himself as a “Dalit from Guntur” in the video.

The video shows Rohith Vemula sitting in a makeshift tent. Popularly known as ‘Veliwada’ in the University if Hyderabad campus, where he and four other students went on to live after getting suspended from the hostels. Vemula is seen talking about his suspension.

According to the report he says in the video that,“Recently, the university expelled us from the hostel premises and the notice which we got served says our presence in public places in hostel premises and administration building can be treated as criminal acts.”

“I came to the university, into the den, as a student of biotechnology but I changed my subjects to sociology because of passion towards social sciences and social aspects,” Vemula says, adding that he bagged a Junior Research Fellowship that helped secure a seat in the general category.
