Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pitting people against each other, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said it was happening in Kashmir, which he claimed was peaceful during the previous Congress tenure.

“The one thing that Narendra Modi knows the best is how to pit one person against the other..Narendra Modi only makes one person fight against the other and this hampers the development of the country,” Rahul said in his speech at the culmination of his road show here.

“In Haryana, Jats were put up against non-Jats…in Kashmir, which was peaceful during the Congress government, people are fighting against each other. In UP and Assam too, the same happened,” said Rahul who resumed his ‘Deoria to Dilli Kisan Yatra’ after a gap of two days today.

Referring to BJP’s claims during elections that each Indian could get Rs 15 lakh if all black money stashed abroad was brought back, the Congress leader accused the Prime Minister of telling lies as he said the ruling party’s promises remained unfulfilled.

He also took a dig at the Prime Minister’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann ki Baat’, saying “he wants to talk about what is in his heart but is not ready to listen to what is in the hearts (of others).”

On the MNREGS scheme of the UPA government, Rahul said he met economists to ask as to who benefitted the most from it and was told that it was the villagers.

“Our fight is to ensure that growth reaches everybody…the last person in the social ladder”, he added.
