CHENNAI: Polling began on a moderate note in Thanjavur, Aravakurichi and Thirupparankundram assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Nellithope constituency in the Union territory on Puducherry on Saturday morning.
Polling progressed peacefully in all constituencies after it began at 7am.
A total of 5,304 officials are involved in polling duty in three constituencies in Tamil Nadu. As many as 12 companies of central paramilitary forces are deployed for security.
The elections in Thanjavur and Aravakurichi are being held now after the Election Commission of India rescinded the polls before the May 16 assembly election in the wake of large scale bribing of voters by political parties.
The ruling AIADMK retained former minister V Senthil Balaji and M Rengasamy in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur respectively while DMK retained K C Palanisamy in Aravakurichi and Anjugam Bhoopathi in Thanjavur. All of them were in the fray for the May 16 assembly election.
