The Congress vice president also referred to the one-day government ban imposed on the Hindi news channel NDTV India.
“Television channels are being punished and asked to shut down,” he said about the ban that has been imposed for the channel’s coverage of the January terrorist attack in Pathankot. The government said it found the coverage “to be in violation of broadcasting norms.”
“Democracy, under the present dispensation, is going through one of its darkest hours,” Rahul said, referring to the ban.
Rahul also said the “opposition is being arrested for holding the government to account.”
Last week, Rahul and AAP leader Manish Sisodia were not allowed to meet the family of an ex-soldier who allegedly committed suicide over not having received OROP dues.
The CWC meeting is significant as it comes ahead of the winter session of Parliament that starts November 16. The Congress plans to question the government on several issues, including freedom of speech and expression.
