The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest order against the family of Dadri lynching victim, Mohammad Akhlaq in an allegedly trumped up case by Hindutva brigade.

Akhlaq was brutally killed last year in September by members of right-wing Hindutva forces on the rumours that the victim had eaten and stored beef in his house.

Among those arrested are the son and relatives of local BJP leader, Sanjay Rana, who had filed a case against the victim’s family.

Akhlaq’s family was forced to move the high court after a Noida court asked the Uttar Pradesh police to file a case against them in July.

The villagers, mostly supporters of Rana and the BJP, had claimed that they saw Akhlaq’s brother Jaan Mohammad slitting a calf’s throat. Their petition was backed by those accused of Akhlaq’s murder.
