A total of Rs six crore has been allocated for propagation of Right to Information (RTI) Act for the ongoing fiscal, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
The budget allocation for 2016-17 is marginally high from the last fiscal’s Rs 5.27 crore but very low from Rs 21 crore earmarked for 2014-15, as per a written reply by Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh in the lower House.
The government has spent Rs 3.94 crore, up to November 26, out of the total allocation for this fiscal, it said.
The RTI Act, which was brought by the then UPA government, empowers citizens to seek time-bound reply on governance-related information.
