Tihar Jail: Murder convict dies due to illness

New Delhi: A 37-year-old murder convict has died suspectedly due to illness at the high-security Tihar jail here, jail officials said today.

Sirajuddin, jali number 9, died at around 12 noon yesterday. He was lodged in the jail since 2009 in a murder case registered in Welcome police station, the officials said.

When his condition deteriorated fellow prisoners informed the jail authorities and he was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased inmate had a history of diabetes and heart disease and was undergoing treatment for many years, said the official.
