Two Dalit youth were allegedly beaten by 25 people in Beed, Maharashtra for overtaking a vehicle on Sunday, reported news agency ANI. Both of them were left with bruise marks on their backs and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Deputy Superintendent of Police of Majalgaon area Hari Balaji told ANI that the probe into the incident was being carried underway but none of the accused has been arrested so far. According to the complaint, they attacked the Dalit youth after they saw a picture of Bhim Rao Amdedkar on their vehicle.
A complaint has been registered under the atrocities act. Earlier on Sunday, the reports of a Dalit family being beaten up in Maharashtra over rumours of beef had also surfaced. There have been a string of videos going viral on the Internet which show the violence carried out against the Dalit community in different parts of the country.
The community has been protesting in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and other areas after a video of four Dalit youth being beaten and dragged by a car for skinning dead cows had surfaced on social media. Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati was also abused by a BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh following which the party supporters and Dalit protesters took to the streets, reported The Indian Express.
