As India decided not to join the SAARC Summit scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan this November the US has stated that it continues to pressurize Pakistan to act against terrorism within it’s territory while caling for de-escalation of the political discourse” between the two South Asian neighbours
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was supposed to go for the event but following the terrorist attack on an Indian Army base at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, India on Tuesday announced that it would not take part in the 19th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit to be hosted by Pakistan.
New Delhi has blamed Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad for the cross border attack on Uri, which has claimed the lives of 18 Indian soldiers. After this unfortunate event India has initiated a diplomatic blitzkrieg worldwide with the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj saying at the 71st UN General Assembly that the world should isolate the nations that sponsor and nurture terrorism.
“Well, I mean, clearly we’ve talked about that before is, while we’ve seen Pakistan make progress on some of the terrorist groups operating within its own borders and carrying out attacks within its borders, that we continue to put pressure on Pakistan to respond to those groups who are, quote/unquote, ‘seeking safe haven on Pakistan’s borders’, that — who are intent on carrying out attacks elsewhere in the region,” US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner said in the daily press briefing on Tuesday.
