In the first episode, we showed how the Maulanas and Muftis from the Muslim community took money to issue Fatwas (religious edicts), declaring “watching TV is illegitimate,” “use of mobiles with cameras is illegal,” “giving polio drops is not allowed,” “working in the film industry in any capacity is not allowed,” and so on.
IMPACT: Several Muslim organisations in the country, including Islamic Fiqh Academy (IFA) and All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, not only condemned such ‘Fatwas’ but also students of Madarsas (Islamic seminaries) and people in general staged protests against the Maulanas and Mulfis in Meerut, who had accepted money to issue such Fatwas in the past.
An enquiry was also set up by IFA to probe the allegations and one of the clerics was stopped from issuing any more Fatwas in future.
