Music extravaganza Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan will begin tomorrow across the country

New Delhi: Music lovers are in for a treat as the Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan, one of India’s biggest classical music, will begin tomorrow in 24 different cities across the country simultaneously.

The annual music festival has been carried on since 1954 and features a galaxy of leading classical artists.

Folk and light music was introduced last year and this year Akashvani has added western music, making it a complete treat for connoisseurs.

“This annual concert will be held at 24 venues on 24th September and artists featured in the concert will be broadcast over the period of one month on the National Hook up of All India Radio,” a statement released here said.

The evening concerts for Hindustani and Carnatic music will be held at 16 venues – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Agra, Bhopal, Chandigarh (Jalandhar), Dharwad, Jaipur, Pune, Valasad (Vadodara), Thiruvanathapuram, Kozhikode and Vizianagaram (Visakhapatnam).

The morning concerts for Hindustani music will be held at 2 venues — Patna and Shimla.

The evening concerts for light and folk music will be held at 5 places — Almora, Rampur, Sambalpur, Mysuru and Kalaburagi.

For the first time, Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan features a western music concert which will be held at Shillong. The event in Shillong shall feature the blues band Soulmate.
