280 cartons of foreign liquor seized in Bihar

280 cartons of India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were seized and two persons arrested from Godanpatti in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district today.

Acting on a tip off, police raided a place in the village and seized 280 cartons of IMFL from a truck. The truck driver and its cleaner were arrested, Senior Superintendent of Police Vivek Kumar said.

The police also seized five other vehicles.

The 280 cartons – containing IMFL made in Haryana – were supposed to be distributed in different parts of the district and its adjoining areas with the help of these seized vehicles, a police official said.

It may be noted that the Bihar government had on Gandhi Jayanti notified the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016 banning manufacture, trade, storage, transportation, possession, sale and consumption of liquor and foreign liquor through a stringent provisions incorporated under the law.

As per the new liquor law, both the persons could attract a minimum 10 years of jail term which may extend to imprisonment for life besides a minimum fine of Rs 1 lakh which may extend to Rs 10 lakh.
